Summary of season 2025-2026 fishing on the Trent
River conditions in summer were consistent with very low water and high temperatures (25c+). So much so that some clubs suspended fishing due to low oxygen levels. Winter was just as challenging with high river levels and localised flooding, making access to the river difficult if not impossible at times.
The main tactics used were ledgering either with a cage feeder or bomb. A mix of baits were successfully used, including boilie, meat and pellet. Particularly successful when river levels were high. The extreme conditions did impact on catches with low numbers of fish being caught. The main species being barbel, bream, chub and eel.
Barbel tended to be in the 6lb-8lb range with a small number of doubles between 10lb-12lb. bream 4lb-6lb and chub 2lb-4lb.
Hope this helps, I’m always the optimist and I am sure conditions will improve this coming season. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you require further information on up-to-date tactics and where to fish.
John G.
