Well I’ve been down to the ponds twice this week, fishing the top pond both times and the fishing has been good. Yesterday I managed to catch another 4 1/2lb Tench from peg 4 which is the second 4 1/2lb tench this season. Other than the tench I’ve had some nice roach, and some small rudd and perch.

Hello all. Thanks to David for sending in a photo of a bream from bottom pond. It nice to see people are enjoying the fishing. I fished top pond for the afternoon of Wednesday 20th August and saw five other anglers, which was great 🙂

Hello again. I have been away on holiday for a week or so but got back to fishing on Sunday 17th. I was a little late arriving and didn’t start fishing until 10ish. It was a nice day and I again chose to fish peg 12 on the top pond. The fishing was quiet until around 1:30 when I managed to land a few reasonable roach, the biggest of which was a good 1/2lb. I’ll post a picture up below for you. As usual my bait was mussels.

I know Steve has sent a message about the bottom pond fishing well on double maggot with people reporting good catches of Crucians. Steve had Paul Stone report the following catch on the bottom pond on the 13th August – I joined Ian Watts yesterday for a session on the bottom pond. Tactically quite different from the previous visit but successful nonetheless. Pond was like a jacuzzi when we started around 9.30 but calmed as the day progressed. By lunchtime it had become relatively quiet. Both caught plenty of fish, I think a dozen crucians between us. Ian had a couple of tench and I lost one. Had some good roach, a couple particularly good, acceptable rudd and even managed a slab of 2.5/3.0 lbs. Not so many sardines this time . All fish caught on maggots.

Tight lines 🙂 Tim.

Hi all, well it seems both ponds continue to fish well at the moment although my fishing has been focused on the top pond in the past few weeks. I have been trying peg 12 after losing more fish in the lillies on peg 13. I have continued to catch tench around the 4lb mark, with the biggest so far being 4lb 8oz. My intention is to try and land one of the bigger bream so I’m keeping my fingers crossed for one of them. I have found that feeder to the lillies in the centre of the pond seems to work well.

Also I have had feeback that the bottom pond is fishing well. Thanks to David Whitaker who emailed with the following details

I caught the following last Friday evening (1.8.25) on the bottom pond, B5.

3 Tench – 1 at about 2 lbs, other 2 small, presumably new stock

6 Crucian Carp – all small, presumably new stock

12 Roach

10 Rudd

Hello all, I’ve been a little slow to provide you with some updates but I have been fishing both the top and bottom ponds, mainly in the mornings 6am till 11am and have been really enjoying it. Apart from the ponds looking lovely at this time of year the fish have been most abliging. My advice on current hot pegs are on the top pond peg 13 and 4, although peg 13 is tight with the two large beds of lillies either side which has resulted in me losing three bream in them (has someone forgot to tell the bream in the top pond that they are bream as when you hook them they set off like carp. I’d be interested to hear if any of you have also seen this?) On the bottom pond the last peg before the corner on the right is fishing very well through the day with all sorts of fish coming from that peg. I’ve been fishing with my regular baits of sweetcorn and mussels due to the complexities of gaining live baits when you live in Matlock 🙂

Anyway I’m adding some photo’s of a fish caught by me and a net full from the peg in the bottom pond caught by John.

Hello all. Has anybody fished the Hassop ponds in the last couple of weeks? Want to get a session in before closed season and wondered how the ponds are fishing.

      Hi Jonathan
yes i tried the top pond on Wednesday 5th March feeder fishing with maggot and didn’t have any joy. To be honestI think it was too cold. It may be better now with the warmer weather. I’d be very interested to hear if anyone has tried more recently?
